Client Reviews

Although released with the iPad two, this adapter will, in reality, pipe both video and audio out of an iPad 1 and an iPhone four by way of HDMI with out any trouble as long as the app you wish to view supports it.
My major interest in this adapter was to have the capability to watch Netflix streaming on family members TVs who do not have World wide web service. The Netflix app functions beautifully over ATT 3G connections on each the iPad and iPhone 4, but I wished to have a way to use the service at older family members member's houses who do not have Online of any sort. I had read most of the reviews here on Amazon and done some other digging around, but no one was quite clear as to what this adapter could and could not do on older hardware. Here's my assessment to date:
iPad two - You get true "mirroring" efficiency. This basically indicates that whatever you see and hear from the iPad 2 on screen gets put through the HDMI connection, like the dwelling screen icons, sound effects, and so on. This is what the adapter was created for.
iPad 1 - When plugged in, you do not get to see something on the Tv screen, but the Tv will recognize that it is receiving an HDMI signal. It will basically be blank. The iPad 1 screen will behave ordinarily until you open an app that is compatible with video/audio out and that is when the magic begins. In the Netflix app, which is the only a single I've tested so far, you nonetheless get the menus and whatnot on the iPad 1 screen as generally, but as soon as you begin playing streaming video, the iPad 1 screen displays a red screen with the Netflix logo. All the video and sound gets piped by way of the HDMI output to the Tv.
I did not have sophisticated testing gear or potential to display the signal's resolution on the Television, but the resolution appears to be, at least for iPad 1, 720p. There was no distortion or stretching of the picture and it filled the Television screen properly with quite modest horizontal bars to keep the aspect ratio appropriate. With 3 bars of signal, the movie streamed just fine and top quality was perfectly viewable with no grossly obvious compression artifacts. Improved than VHS and loosely in the ballpark of DVD (even though upconverted to 720p, apparently).
iPhone 4 - I tried the similar factor on my iPhone 4. It all works basically the identical as on an iPad 1, which tends to make fantastic sense given the similarities in hardware. I did notice substantially worse compression artifact errors, although, when output to Tv. My guess is that the video signal being streamed to the iPhone four is scaled down to fit the little screen, exactly where such artifacting would be less noticeable, and that this tiny-screen version does not scale nicely to a 42" HDTV. Although each sound and video were output just fine, the superior of the video left significantly to be desired. In reality, I would describe the video as essentially unwatchable.
It is my understanding that other apps work basically the very same. I don't have a list of apps, other than Netflix, which will perform in this way. I wouldn't be surprised if the YouTube app, iPod video, and so on. worked and even possibly a game or two. My key will need was Netflix, and it operates just fine for that purpose.
The adapter itself has two ports, one particular HDMI female port and 1 typical female iPod connector port. This permits you to power/charge the iPad or iPhone although simultaneously outputting video and audio. Not included, of course, is an HDMI cable. I would recommend you get at least a 3' cable, possibly a 6' cable, with which to connect to the Tv or projector since you will have to account for needing to physically manipulate the touch screen to commence up video output. Make quality is typical Apple, which is to say wonderful.
Incredibly pleased with my gamble to purchase this. Didn't want other people to have to be concerned if their intended use was related.

This tiny accessory operates like a charm. It does assistance video out for each the iPad 1 and 2, but only from the dedicated video app, or a couple of other video services like Netflix. The mirroring feature (which will display everything that is on the iPad--video, apps, dwelling screen, and so on.--exactly mirrored on the Tv/monitor) is only doable with the iPad 2. All it demands is an HDMI cable, plug a single finish into the Tv, the other into the adapter, and it really is good to go. There is even an further 30 pin port so that the iPad can be plugged into a power source at the similar time, if there is ever a need to have to exceed it's ten hour battery span. All in all, an outstanding way to make the iPad's content material accessible for teachers, business presentations, house entertainment, or other group activities. A outstanding and helpful accessory for the iPad.
